The Baqubah Landfill was officially opened during a ceremony attended by Iraqi officials as well as representatives of the Diyala Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) and US Forces Iraq. The Baqubah landfill is an important component of the new improved solid waste management system in Baqubah.

LDA International designed and constructed the Baqubah Landfill to international specifications set by the Government of Iraq, and cost over $933,000 to complete. If maintained properly, it will serve the needs of local citizens for five years. Iraqi officials thanked the US government for its efforts and promised to put the landfill to good use.
